Let me tell you all, I have failed a few times in this class. My repeat offense?
Procrastination.
In general, I am very used to an assignment being due at 11:59 PM on it's due date. This almost rarely applied in this class. That forced me to attempt to change a lot of habits. Sure, I could have just done the assignments throughout the week like I am supposed to do, but there is no thrill in that. None whatsoever. But if I am to procrastinate until Friday, I need to wake up at a reasonable time Friday. During this lovely pandemic, let's just say my sleep habits are far from healthy. Why do I do this to myself? I wish I knew. But yet, I do.
I'm learning that, especially at the University of Florida, procrastination isn't for me.
In general, I feel that I am exceptionally good at facing my own failures, and especially bad at taking responsibility for my failures when faced with criticism.
On my own, I have no problem looking back at interactions with friends, family, and people from work. I understand that I am not perfect and always must learn from my mistakes to do better next time. And when it is pointed out to me kindly, I tend to be receptive and understanding. I also spend more time reflecting on my own actions.
On the flip side, something happens to me when a friend or co-worker overtly gives me "sass" for doing something wrong, or not fast enough, or whatever it be. My focus is completely taken away from the problem itself, and oriented around a "WHO does this person think they are?" mindset. This is definitely something I could work on. Especially in music! Artists can be vicious if they decide they don't like your contributions to their music. This is perfectly understandable, and if I want to make money in the end, I need to understand this will always happen.

Hi Heather, I can totally relate to the assignment due date/time not being 11:59 pm and instead at 12 pm. This definitely got me a lot in the beginning! Your post is very insightful and introspective, which is important to improving upon things you would like to change. As long as you are aware of bad habits, they are much easier to fix. Thanks for sharing.
