- What surprised me the most was the entrepreneur's insane background as a poor travelling merchant's bastard child. She went through insane hardships in her youth that is very unexpected of a world-class entrepreneur.
- I strongly admire her personality. Her understanding of sexism at the time and her understanding of the world was very unique and admirable.
- I least admired her dedication to covering up her past. She has a very respectable past, coming from almost nothing and I believe her story is inspiring and she deserves to have been able to be more honest about it. This is understandable however, as in these times your background placed a lot of importance on you as a citizen.
- The entrepreneur encountered adversity and failure for most of her life. Her childhood left her abandoned by her parents and her early career was unsuccessful. She attempted to be a stage performer, and failed. At this point she focused her energy on fashion, as she had experience as a seamstress.
2) She was very competent in the world of fashion, beauty, and aesthetic. She designed the Chanel logo herself, and it was so iconic that it stayed for the entirety of the company. She worked as a seamstress for many years, making her very competent in the realm of clothing and teaching her how to properly cut outfits.
3) It was a bit confusing to remember things such as names, times, and locations. Her life is very complicated, took place in many regions around Europe and France, and involved many people, famous and unknown.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
First, I would ask if there were many other women around her desiring and attempting to create new silhouettes for women's fashion. What reactions was she forced to deal with making such drastic changes to the mainstream of women's clothing, and how did she deal with them.
Second, I would ask why she tried so hard to keep so many aspects of her life secretive, even in her old age. She has many inspiring stories to tell, and by the time she died I feel she would have been respected immensely for being open and honest about her past.
5) Coco Chanel was someone who worked very hard her whole life. From a young child, she was taught to be a relatable salesperson, with her whole life centered around working. Chanel is someone who knows how to spend her days being innovative, creative, and productive. This contrasts heavily with my work ethic, usually spending the majority of my time trying to figure out how to work "smarter, not harder" in order to maximize free time.
