The segment of my business would be audio production in Gainesville, Florida. More specifically, cheap audio production for college-age students with a low budget, and artists wanting to record demos.
Need awareness: Among those interviewed, it seems the need arises when someone has an idea for a song, or simply wants to create music but lacks knowledge, experience, and basic equipment. A lack of money also contributes to this need, as people with money can afford much higher quality studio production.
Information search: Most of the time, people in this category of need turn to their friends, since many musicians know people with minimal recording experience. Another way people go about searching for a solution is by googling searches such as "Florida recording studio". This gives rise to other issues, as most studios you find will charge prices of $60+ per hour.
Findings: Some subjects preferred to resort to friends and family for free music production, but occasionally these people don't know who to go to and need a third party. This is especially true for the younger subjects.
Conclusion: While some people find this business to greatly satisfy their needs for cheap music production, others would rather find cheaper ways to access higher-quality production studios that my business would not be able to afford for some time. For those who did need this service, they claimed to have greatly needed it and would go with this service in a heartbeat.

Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteTurning to friends for help seems to be a common theme as it relates to making music, I’m finding the same trend too. People can’t really go to anyone in an affordable and easy way. Studios are often expensive with their per hour rates, and people are always looking for cost effective ways to solve their needs as it relates to a hobby like music.
Heather,
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely right in saying that college students typically do not have the money to pay for expensive music equipment, but if you are making your product/service too cheap then it might not make it worth it to you for a while because the equipment and space is so costly. I know I personally would love the chance to make some music and create something cool but wouldn't want to spend over $60 either. Keep up the great work!
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you are turning to your friends to gain your market which is definitely not a bad idea. However, friends can only be a limited amount try to focus on people that are related with the music industry already. Maybe people who are in the music building or school. To me the need is not something I relate to but I feel like the need is definitely there.
